Emilia Clarke is opening up about the two brain aneurysms that she suffered years ago.
In an interview on BBC’s Sunday Morning, the 35-year-old Game Of Thrones star revealed that after what she’s been through, it is “remarkable” that she is still able to speak.
She detailed her health troubles and recovery, expressing gratitude at how she was able to heal without any repercussions.
Back in 2019, she first shared that she had suffered from brain aneurysms in 2011 and 2013 and had to undergo life-saving brain surgery because of them. Now, she said in her new interview:
“It was the most excruciating pain. It was incredibly helpful to have Game Of Thrones sweep me up and give me that purpose.”
She also spoke about seeing the scans of her brain for the first time following her incidents, revealing that there was “quite a bit” missing from her brain functions:
“Which always makes me laugh… Strokes, basically, as soon as any part of your brain doesn’t get blood for a second, it’s gone. So the blood finds a different route to get around, but then whatever bit is missing is therefore gone.”
Emilia went on to talk about how her aneurysms affected her brain:
“The amount of my brain that is no longer usable — it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions.
I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.”
