Emma Roberts is getting candid about her pregnancy journey – and how her mom, Kelly Cunningham, accidentally broke the news on social media.
The mom-to-be appeared on Monday’s (October 20) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I was keeping my pregnancy pretty low key but unfortunately my mother has Instagram. Which, mothers and Instagram, it’s a bad combination,” Emma quipped. “She definitely spilled the beans.”
Emma says her mom isn’t really tech savvy, and when she bought her an iPhone a few years back, “It was the worst thing I ever did,” she admitted, laughing.
“It started slow with a Google Alert on me, which she never had before, so she’s like, ‘Emma, have you seen this photo from 2010?!’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I’ve seen that photo.’ So I’m getting flooded with ‘Is this true?’ And ‘Have you seen this and that?’ And then she got Instagram,” she told the host.
Emma says she tried to teach her mom a lesson.
“We kind of laughed. We kind of got into a fight. I blocked her at one point,” she quipped. But she thinks that it’ll be a “good story to tell the baby.”
Emma and Garrett Hedlund are expecting their first child together – a boy. When reports of her pregnancy first made the rounds in June, per Entertainment Tonight, Kelly had responded to fan comments on Instagram, seemingly confirming the news.
According to the outlet, one commenter asked, “Kelly is Emma pregnant???” and she responded, “YES!!” followed by a heart emoji.
And when another person congratulated her on becoming a grandma in the comments, she replied, “Thank you so much! Very excited.”
In August, The American Horror Story actress has since confirmed the reports that she and Garrett are expecting their first child together. Sharing a sweet photo slideshow of photos on the platform cradling her baby bump, the actress posed on a striped couch by the window, solo and alongside her beau.
“Me…and my two favorite guys 💙💙,” she wrote on the post, appearing to confirm the baby’s gender – she’s having a boy!
As for naming their baby, Emma revealed that it’s Garrett who actually ended up picking the name.
“I was convinced I was having a girl to a point where I said to my boyfriend, ‘If it’s boy you can name it,'” she said, laughing. “Meanwhile being like, it’s a girl, who cares? Now I get to name it. Then when we found out, he was like, ‘Oh yeah, so you said I get to name it!’ And I was like, ‘I did say that, didn’t I? So funny that I said that.'”
“My boyfriend was playing very hard to get with me about the names. I was like, ‘We’re having a baby. You can tell me what you want to name the baby,'” Emma shared. “And he was just very tight-lipped and then he did finally, he came up with a winner that was really good. All of mine got vetoed for various reasons, which I’m very upset about.”
