Erin Moriarty is getting real about her health struggles — and hopefully helping others along the way.
The 30-year-old actress, best known for her roles in The Boys and Jessica Jones, recently revealed that she’s been battling Graves’ disease — a condition that, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is “an autoimmune disease that affects your thyroid gland. The gland produces too much thyroid hormone, a condition known as hyperthyroidism. An overactive thyroid causes problems with your heart and bones.”
Erin opened up about her diagnosis in a vulnerable Instagram post, reflecting on her own experience while emphasizing that there’s no one-size-fits-all story when it comes to health. “Autoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody/every body,” Erin wrote. “Your experience will be different from mine. My experience will be different from yours. Perhaps greatly, perhaps minutely. One thing I can say: if I hadn’t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would’ve caught this sooner.”
She continued, “A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It’s been increasing in strength ever since. If yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don’t ‘suck it up’ and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. S–t’s hard enough as is.”
Erin’s confession resonates at a time when many women suffer quietly with health issues — ignoring symptoms, putting their well-being last, or disregarding growing problems until they become serious. She’s a powerful reminder that we need to listen to our bodies and trust ourselves when something feels off. Support and proper care can make all the difference.
While Erin’s battle might be a tough one, her choice to be vulnerable and to speak up is a testament to her immense strength — and hopefully a message that resonates with anyone wrestling with their own health struggles.
