Pop rising star Filipa is bursting with exciting new talent!
This up-and-coming singer/songwriter is pushing her musical boundaries and is set to make an even bigger splash on the international music scene.
Showcasing powerful vocals, playful lyrics and catchy beats, Filipa is out with an addictive new track “Good Behavior” – and POPSTAR! is bringing you the EXCLUSIVE music video premiere!
Originally from South Africa, Filipa first burst onto the global music scene in 2014 after winning Ryan Seacrest’s Cover Competition with her haunting rendition of One Direction’s “Story Of My Life.” She received an Awesome Women nomination from Cosmopolitan the same year, and was hailed by Glamour as the Next Big Thing at the 2014 Women Of The Year Awards.
Citing Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Enrique Iglesias, Tokio Hotel, and Barbra Streisand as her musical influences, this gifted Harvard student is creating her own unique sound. Filipa evokes deep and personal messages in all of her lyrics and continues to touch hearts and minds with her music and talent.
She dishes on the inspirations behind her new track, saying it’s “about crushing on someone that you’re not supposed to be crushing on,” and, “how being around this person doesn’t guarantee that you’ll behave.”
“This song was incredibly fun to write. I walked into studio with a solid idea of wanting to write about [it],” she said, revealing, “I was personally going through this experience and I had to find a way to deal with it by writing about it.”
And working on the song turned out to be a fun and memorable experience. “I got to work with such an amazing team and we ended up creating ‘Good Behavior’ with a ton of laughter, excitement and spillage of all the dirty details.”
Filipa also opened up about what went on behind the scenes while shooting their music video. “We managed to shoot the first scene in a convenience store in a bit of a rush, since we needed to get out of there as soon as possible. We only had three takes and had to wait for customers to clear the surrounding areas before we could start rolling,” she shared. “I was the most nervous for this scene, because it was the first one and I was scared to drop the bottles of wine that I had to pick up. My expressions were totally real too, I was a nervous mess!”
“I was so lucky to have the best cast and crew working on this music video with me. We all had so much fun that it genuinely felt like I was spending an evening with friends,” she said, adding, “It was also the first time that I shot a video in LA, which was so exciting!”
“Good Behaviour” takes on a fun and flirty approach to admitting that crushing on someone can be too good to control. Check it out here:
