Hailee Steinfeld just dropped a new song titled “Wrong Direction,” and it’s sparking A LOT of speculations from fans about what (or who) the song could possibly be about.

FYI, back in 2018, Hailee and Niall Horan sparked romance rumors for a while. They never publicly confirmed the relationship though. Then, by December 2018, they reportedly split.

More than a year later, Hailee drops a new song and, due to its name and lyrics, fans are wondering if it’s about their alleged relationship –  and many have taken this as shade thrown at Niall, who rose to fame thanks to his former band, One Direction.

“hailee couldve named that song ANYTHING and she named it the one thing that makes us know it’s niall. what did he DO,” one fan commented.

Then, there’s the lyrics that many fans believe imply that she may have been cheated on:

“Couldn’t even see you through the smoke

Lookin’ back, I probably should have known

But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleepin’ alone”

“Hold on, Niall Horan cheated on Hailee Steinfeld?????? Her new song….” a fan tweeted.

“Niall Horan stans trying to convince themselves he didn’t cheat on Hailee Steinfeld when they were together despite the evidence in Wrong Direction “But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleeping alone,” ” another wrote.

And the chorus is all sorts of shady:

“Loved me with your worst intentions

Didn’t even stop to question

Every time you burned me down

Don’t know how; for a moment it felt like heaven

Loved me with your worst intentions

Painted us a happy ending

Every time you burned me down

Don’t know how; for a moment it felt like heaven”

It’s been over a year since they allegedly split – so whether or not the song is about Niall is still a huge question mark.

As for Hailee, over the last weekend of 2019, she went on Instagram Stories and shared that she was “thankful for all the lessons, the love, the heartbreak, & the memories” in 2019 – and dropped “Wrong Direction” on January 1st.
