Fans have long been speculating about a falling out between once-uber-close besties Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss – and one of the singer’s recently released tracks for evermore’s deluxe editions are reigniting fan theories.
ICYMI, fans have been wondering whatever happened to Tay and Karlie – they used to be thick as thieves. The singer reportedly did not attent the model’s 2018 wedding to Joshua Kushner, but Karlie assured fans that she and Taylor are still friends. However, by 2019, it seems their friendship had totally fizzled out.
Lyrics from “It’s Time To Go” have fans wondering whether Tay had taken a dig at Karlie – the two, as many have pointed out, bears many similar features and look a lot like sisters. “When the words of a sister come back in whispers that prove she was not, in fact, what she seemed / Not a twin from your dreams, she’s a crook who was caught.”
This isn’t the first time fans have speculated about one of Taylor’s songs referencing her friendship with Karlie. In her Lover album, fans wondered whether “Cornelia Street” was about her rumored friendship break up with Karlie Kloss, with lyrics like: “You hold my hand on the street/ Walk me back to that apartment/ Years ago, we were just inside/ Barefoot in the kitchen/ Sacred new beginnings/ That became my religion, listen/ I hope I never lose you/ I’d never walk Cornelia Street again.”
Taylor, who famously never publicly names who her songs are about, has bever really addressed any of those Karlie rumors directly. However, back in March 2019, she wrote a little something about how some connections aren’t meant to last forever in her “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30” essay for Elle. “It’s sad but sometimes when you grow, you outgrow relationships. You may leave behind friendships along the way, but you’ll always keep the memories,” she wrote.
More recently though, she did open up about the meaning behind her new songs on Instagram on Thursday (January 7), writing, “The Evermore deluxe album with two bonus tracks, ‘Right Where You Left Me’ and ‘It’s Time to Go,’ is now available! The first is a song about a girl who stayed forever in the exact spot where her heart was broken, completely frozen in time. ‘It’s Time to Go’ is about listening to your gut when it tells you to leave. How you always know before you know, you know?”
