Firerose has publicly responded to Billy Ray Cyrus’ divorce filing, presenting her side of the story that paints the country singer in a rather negative light. The 62-year-old music star and the 35-year-old Firerose got married in October 2023, but their marriage quickly soured, leading to Billy Ray filing for divorce in June 2024. He cited “irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct” and is seeking an annulment on grounds of “fraud.”
According to a source close to the situation, Billy Ray felt that Firerose was using him for his money, claiming he was only involved “so he can take care of her financially.” However, Firerose has a very different perspective on the final days of their marriage, which she detailed in court documents filed on June 14.
Firerose’s court documents reveal a tumultuous and distressing period leading up to her preventative double mastectomy surgery scheduled for May 24. Diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation, Firerose decided to undergo the surgery to reduce her risk of cancer.
In her account, the days leading up to her surgery were chaotic, with Firerose alleging that Billy Ray “continuously launched verbal assaults” at her. The complaint states, “When Wife would attempt to voice certain concerns, Husband would often call her a ‘selfish f—ing bitch’ and continually alleged that she was using him.” The documents further describe how Firerose felt trapped and scared to seek help or leave because she feared her husband would interfere with her surgery and recovery.
Just one day before her surgery, Firerose claims that Billy Ray ambushed her with divorce documents. This unexpected move left her in a state of shock and unprepared for the significant life event she was about to undergo. Firerose had been relying on Billy Ray to cover her health insurance and the surgery costs, a promise she alleges he made following their wedding.
The court documents state, “Wife relied on Husband’s promises to pay for her surgery, and Husband has now repudiated that promise. On the day Wife was set to get her surgery, she was instead searching for a place to live and under a significant amount of emotional distress.”
In addition to the financial and emotional turmoil, Firerose claimed she felt “unsafe” living with Billy Ray. She strongly denied his accusations of her engaging in inappropriate marital conduct, which Billy Ray cited in his divorce filing.
