Gerard Pique is reportedly nursing a broken heart.
Joan Laporta, the President of his soccer team FC Barcelona has revealed that the soccer star is “suffering” since he and his longtime partner Shakira separated.
Earlier this month, Gerard and Shakira announced that they had ended their relationship after 11 years together. The breakup announcement came amidst rumors that Gerard had been cheating on Shakira.
Now, Joan is speaking out about Gerard’s heartbroken state. He said:
“Pique is suffering.
As much as we imagine, we have in our imagination players with fame, money, and everything we like, but they are people and Pique is a great person.
He is one of the captains, he is lucky, and he has given a lot and he has to give us a lot.”
Joan went on to elaborate:
“He has gone through a circumstance that is not pleasant at all, with children at a very young age and Pique deserves the esteem and affection of the fans.
Do not pay attention to the news that tries to leave him as a frivolous man, with our feelings, and that everything slips away from him. I am lucky to know him and to have treated him as a person.
It is an extraordinary person who is suffering. And we have to help him. I will be the first to give him the love he deserves.”
Joan’s words about Gerard’s well-being come in the midst of a scandal that is brewing from a leaked audio convo that Gerard had with Royal Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales, in which the athlete is said to have asked to play at the 2020 Olympic Games even if he had already retired from international football.
