Gerard Pique has broken his silence on his split from his long-term superstar ex partner, Shakira.
The 36-year-old soccer player recently gave his first interview since separating from the 46-year-old singer. Their separation, as you may know, has long been hounded by talk that he cheated on her, which led to the split.
Gerard has since gone official with his new girlfriend, 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti.
In the new interview, he has now spoken out about their split and how it impacted their kids. He said about his two sons with her, Man, 9, and Sasha, 7:
“Everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children.
It is about protecting them. That is the job of all parents with children. That is what I am focused on an that is my job as a father.”
He talked about co-parenting with Shakira:
“We each make the decisions that we think are best. I think that in the end the only thing that matters is that my children are fine.”
Gerard opened up about his life post-split, declaring:
“I keep doing what I want. The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted.
The people that I love and care about me are the ones who know me. The rest isn’t important to me. I spend my energy on being with my loved ones and giving them what I have.”
And he concluded the interview by stating that he is happy:
“I want to be true to myself. I’m not going to spend money on cleaning up my image… There have been changes in my life and I have known how to preserve happiness.
I am very happy.”
