Grimes, the talented musician known for her album “Art Angels,” has taken legal action against her ex-partner, Elon Musk. The lawsuit was filed on September 29 in a California court, and it seeks to “establish parental relationship.”
This legal move comes just weeks after it was revealed that Grimes and Elon share a third child together. Grimes’ petition aims to have the court formally recognize the legal parents of a child born to unmarried individuals. Although the case docket is public, the details of the filings have been kept under wraps by the court.
As of now, the petition does not specify whether Grimes is seeking child support or custody rights. Elon Musk has yet to respond to the legal action.
Grimes and Elon Musk began dating in 2018 and had an on-again, off-again relationship until they confirmed their split in September 2021. They welcomed their first child, a son named X Æ A-Xii, in May 2020. Grimes then quietly gave birth to their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl (also known as Y), via surrogate in December 2021. However, it was only in September of this year that journalist Walter Isaacson’s biography on Elon Musk revealed the existence of their third child, a boy named Techno Mechanicus (or Tau).
In response to the journalist’s tweet sharing photos of Elon’s twins, Strider and Azure, from his previous relationship with Shivon Zilis, Grimes expressed her desire to reconnect with her son. She wrote in a now-deleted tweet:
“Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never ever been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”
A few days later, Grimes revealed that she had a conversation with Shivon to resolve the situation:
“I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don’t be angry at her! We respect each other a lot and we’re excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together.”
Shivon responded positively, stating that “it all ended up for the best.”
It’s worth noting that Elon Musk has fathered a total of 11 children and has been divorced three times. Shivon secretly welcomed their twins in November 2021, following Elon’s split from Grimes.
