Haley Joel Osment is speaking out for the first time since his arrest earlier this month—and he’s not sugarcoating anything.

The 37-year-old actor, best known for his childhood roles in The Sixth Sense and A.I. Artificial Intelligence, was arrested at a ski resort in Mammoth Lakes, California, on April 8. The incident, which has since made headlines across entertainment and news outlets, quickly escalated after police bodycam footage surfaced—showing the actor visibly intoxicated, shouting, and using offensive language, including an antisemitic slur.

Now, Haley is addressing the situation publicly. In a statement shared with People, he offered a raw and emotional apology, expressing shame over his behavior and the language he used during what he describes as a blackout.

“I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” he said. “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place.”

Earlier this year, Osment was among those who lost their homes to the Eaton Fire in Altadena, California. The wildfire left dozens of residents displaced and devastated—a tragedy that clearly left its mark on the actor.

“But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word,” he continued. “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage – I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”

The bodycam footage paints a disturbing picture of the arrest. According to People, Osment was seen being restrained by officers and repeatedly claimed, “I’m being attacked.” When asked for his name, he simply said, “I’m an American,” over and over again. Later, from the back of the police vehicle, he was recorded yelling, “I’m being kidnapped by a f–king Nazi,” and called the officer an antisemitic slur.

The footage spread quickly, prompting public backlash and concern. In response, Osment’s statement doesn’t attempt to deflect responsibility—he fully owns up to his actions and says he’s committed to making things right, though he admits the road ahead won’t be easy.

As of now, the Forrest Gump star has been formally charged with multiple misdemeanors. A week after his arrest, authorities confirmed that Osment will be arraigned on July 7 for public intoxication and cocaine possession.

It’s a deeply personal and public fall from grace for an actor whose early career was marked by critical acclaim and major award nominations. In recent years, Osment has taken on a number of quirky and offbeat roles in shows like The Boys, Goliath, and What We Do in the Shadows, rebranding himself as a character actor with sharp comedic timing and a self-aware charm.
