An appeal has been granted for Harvey Weinstein.

Almost two and a half years after the 70-year-old former producer was found guilty or rape and sexual assault, Harvey will now have another opportunity to get his conviction from his New York trials repealed.

Back in 2020, Harvey was convicted of criminal sexual act in the first degree as well as rape in the third degree. Although he was acquitted on three other charges the former convictions brought him imprisonment of 23 years.

It’s been reported that a court spokesperson stated that Chief Judge Janet DiFore granted the appeal in the New York State of Appeals.

In a statement to People, Harvey still maintains his innocence, declaring:

“I am so grateful to my attorneys for working hard and smart on this.

Their hard work will help me prove my innocence in the end.”

An attorney for Harvey named Arthur Aidala added that they “are grateful that Chief Judge DiFiore acknowledged the substantial legal issues in this case and we are hopeful that the entire Court will find that Mr’ Weinstein did not receive a fair trial and reverse his conviction.

Mr. Weinstein has consistently maintained his innocence.”

Harvey initially sought the appeal in 2021.
