Kit Harington is finally opening up about two big topics that have kept fans talking: the much-debated ending of Game of Thrones and his brief foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2021’s Eternals.

At 37, the actor still finds himself at the center of conversations about Game of Thrones, particularly its final season. The show’s ending sparked intense reactions, with fans even going so far as to sign a petition demanding a remake of the season. So, how does Kit feel about all the drama surrounding the conclusion of one of TV’s most iconic series?

In an interview with GQ, Kit shared his perspective on the last season of Game of Thrones, acknowledging the exhaustion that permeated the cast and crew. “I think if there was any fault with the end of Thrones, it’s that we were all so f—ing tired, we couldn’t have gone on longer,” he admitted. “And so I understand some people thought it was rushed and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was any alternative. I look at pictures of me in that final season and I look exhausted. I look spent. I didn’t have another season in me.”

For those who felt let down by the final episode, Kit offered a thoughtful response. He acknowledged the backlash, saying, “Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I think there were mistakes made, story-wise, towards the end maybe. I think there were some interesting choices that didn’t quite work.” It’s a rare moment of candor from the actor, who has largely stayed quiet on the subject since the show’s finale aired.

The conversation then turned to the Jon Snow spinoff that never saw the light of day. Fans were eagerly anticipating more of Jon Snow’s story, but Kit kept details of the project under wraps. “I don’t really want to say because it starts a whole thing,” he said, carefully choosing his words.

He did, however, reveal a bit about how the project came to be and why it ultimately didn’t move forward. “What I can tell you is it was HBO that came to me and said, ‘Would you consider this?’ My first reaction was no. And then I thought there could be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt that there might be something left to say and a story left to tell in a pretty limited way. We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn’t… nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it, we could end up with something that’s not good. And that’s the last thing we all want.’”

Beyond Game of Thrones, Kit also touched on his brief stint in the Marvel Universe. In Eternals, Kit portrayed Dane Whitman, a character that was expected to evolve into the Black Knight. However, the film didn’t receive the warmest reception, and talk of a sequel has been quiet.

Reflecting on his role in the movie, Kit was refreshingly honest. “I’m not gonna pretend I took that [role] because it was different and interesting. If Marvel calls, you gotta do it,” he confessed. Despite the film’s lukewarm reception, Kit hasn’t ruled out a return to the character. He mentioned that he “would be interested to return” if Marvel decided to explore another iteration of the Black Knight.
