Lady Gaga is officially spilling the details on how her fiancé, Michael Polansky, popped the big question, and it’s just as unique as you’d expect from the star.

Two months after she accidentally confirmed her engagement during the Paris Olympics, the Joker: Folie à Deux actress and pop icon appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on October 1 to set the record straight about the proposal.

Gaga explained that Michael’s proposal came right after her birthday, leaving her initially wondering when the moment would happen. “My birthday passed, and I was like, ‘Oh, I thought he was going to propose,’” she shared with Kimmel. But Michael had a special plan in mind.

The couple took a trip together to go rock climbing, an activity they’d done before and enjoyed. Gaga described the experience, saying, “We’ve been rock climbing before, which was super fun.” When Kimmel asked if this was a regular hobby for her, she responded with a laugh, “I do now. I would do anything for love.”

Gaga, ever practical, also shared her approach to rock climbing fashion: “I dress for safety and comfort because you’ve got to get to the top and you’ve got to go back down,” she said, clearly in the adventurous spirit that matched the day.

After they reached the summit and took some photos to capture the moment, they began their descent. It was during the walk back that Michael made his move—though he did so in a way that was very true to himself. “He actually—it was very Michael—he asked me if he could ask me. He wanted to know if it was okay to propose before he proposed,” Gaga recalled, smiling at the memory. “And I was like, ‘Yes, it’s so okay.’”

In true non-traditional fashion, Michael didn’t drop down to one knee. But that suited Gaga just fine. “He didn’t, but I’m a modern lady. I like what he did,” she said, showing her appreciation for his thoughtful and personal approach.

As for the upcoming wedding, Gaga admitted that they’re still figuring out the details. “We’re not exactly sure yet,” she confessed. While they’ve joked about keeping it simple, Gaga hinted that the ceremony could take a turn for the extravagant. “We actually talk a lot about just going to a courthouse, just the two of us, and ordering Chinese food,” she shared. But with a smile, she added, “Knowing me, also it could become a circus with unicorns.”

Whether it’s an intimate courthouse affair or a magical spectacle, one thing is certain: Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky are doing things their way, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what this powerhouse couple will plan for their special day.
