Taylor Swift is giving props to Katy Perry for her “genius” music video.
Katy recently dropped the music video for her song “Not The End of The World,” which also stars Zooey Deschanel. In a case of mistaken identity, Zooey gets abducted by aliens who have mistaken her for Katy – and she has to play along so they won’t blow up earth.
It appears Taylor totally digs the music video, and told Katy just that in a tweet.
“THIS IS GENIUS,” she wrote, along with an absolutely spot-on gif of Zooey smiling and looking triumphant.
For years, Taylor and Katy were rumored to be beefing on the DL – so much so that there were speculations that Taylor’s 2014 hit “Bad Blood” is about Katy. In 2018, Katy sent Taylor a literal olive branch at the start of her Reputation Tour and, the next year, she made a cameo in Taylor’s “You Need To Calm Down” music video. When Katy welcomed her baby girl with fiancé Orlando Bloom, Tay sent an embroidered baby blanket she handcrafted herself as a gift.
Zooey’s role in Katy’s music video is no accident – they do look a lot alike. And Katy actually ‘fessed up to Zooey that she has used their similar looks to help get her in clubs in the past.
During an Instagram Live chat that Katy and Zooey did following the release of the music video, the “Daisies” singer admitted to the 500 Days Of Summer actress: “When I first got to L.A., I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money, I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club.”
Apparently, that piece of info didn’t come as a surprise to Zooey.
“Well, I know this,” she revealed. “People were like ‘I saw you!’ But I’m such a goody two-shoes, and people kept going like, ‘I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!'”
“Then everybody kept telling me about you, ‘This girl Katy, she looks just like you,’ and I’m like, ‘Who is this Katy?'” Zooey continued. “And then when I first met you, I was so relieved because you’re so pretty, and I was like, ‘Oh, thank god. She’s so pretty.'”
