Music stars brought out all the stops when they performed on Sunday (November 22) night’s American Music Awards in Los Angeles. However, one of the award show’s slated performers didn’t hit the stage – and fans have been asking why.

In the lead up to the 2020 AMAs, Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez were teased for a world premiere performance of their duet “Dákiti.” But excited fans ended up disappointed when the highly-anticipated event didn’t happen.

“Me waiting for bad bunny all damn night just for them to cut the performance,” one fan tweeted.

“… show’s over? Where the Bad Bunny performance at though? #AMAs,” another asked.

“I’m so mad because Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez didn’t perform on the AMAs because I literally watched the whole event until the end and wasted my time waiting for both of them to pop up,” one person wrote with a sad face emoji.

In a press release on Monday (November 23), Bad Bunny revealed the reason behind why he had to cancel his performance – he’s been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Bad Bunny was originally set to perform his No. 1 global hit ‘Dákiti’ with Jhay Cortez live for the first time at the AMAs but unfortunately, the artist tested positive for COVID-19, which forced him to cancel the presentation,” the statement read.

Per PEOPLE, his rep says he’s “feeling okay [and] isn’t showing major symptoms,” adding that they are “praying it remains that way.”

However, Bad Bunny wasn’t a total no-show at the AMAs. He made an appearance from his home, virtually presenting the very first AMA for Favorite Latin Female Artist Award to Becky G.

He also won two AMAs for the Latin categories – Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album for his sophomore album, YHLQMDLG.

“To all my fans, to all the people who support me and listen to my music, I do it all for you,” he said as he accepted the award. “Latinos are ruling the world. I love you all so much.”

Get well soon, Bad Bunny!
