Jane Lynch and Lea Michele starred together on Glee throughout the show’s six-season run. Jane has been on Broadway for the past months, playing Mrs. Brice on the first-ever live musical revival of Funny Girl. With Lea just having been announced to take over the role of Fanny Brice starting September, Glee fans were excited for an on-stage reunion between the two.
Sadly, that won’t be happening just yet. And now, Jane is speaking out about why this is the case.
She addressed the recent news of Lea’s casting as Fanny, and how she will be departing the show right before Lea makes her debut.
Jane said to Deadline that she and Lea have talked about Lea joining Funny Girl:
“We have been in touch about it.”
She went on to address why she and Lea will not be starring together, and why Lea will be performing with Tovah Feldshuh, who will be taking on the Mrs. Brice role:
“You know, it was jus a really strong idea to have Feldshuh and Lea premiere together. That’s the only reason [we won’t appear together].”
Jane had nothing but good things to say about Lea:
“I adore her. She’s just going to take this show and make it her own.
I’m so glad she’s getting the opportunity in real life to do the show and not just on Glee.”
