Celebs live a big part of their lives in front of the cameras – but that doesn’t mean everyone in their family will do, too.

Katherine Schwarzenegger recently opened up about a parenting decision she and hubby Chris Pratt made following the birth of their daughter Lyla – not showing her face in the photos they share online. The decision was actually inspired, in part, by Katherine’s own upbringing.

The Gift of Forgiveness author is no stranger to the spotlight – her parents, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, are both huge Hollywood names. However, she’s grateful at how her parents were able to give her a “normal” upbringing.

“I think that one of the greatest gifts that my parents ever gave me and my siblings is the gift of privacy and having a really normal upbringing, or as normal of an upbringing as possible,” the new mom said in an interview on the Today show. “We were allowed to be our own people and have our own identity and kind of choose to step into whatever form of being public we wanted to when we felt comfortable. And I think that was such an incredible gift to have given us kids.”

Katherine and Chris welcomed their first child together in August of last year – daughter Lyla. (Chris is also dad to eight-year-old son Jack, whom he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris.) And Katherine says she and her hubby are on the same page when it comes to their kids’ privacy.

“It’s something that’s really important to my husband and I to give to our kids and to be able to have that privacy, and not necessarily show much of them on social media,” she added.

She also opened up about her life as a new mom.

“She’s the best,” Katherine told the hosts of her daughter. “… It’s just such a difference what a year can make, but it’s the best thing in the entire world. I love every minute of motherhood so far and I just feel really blessed and really lucky, cause she’s such a happy and easy baby.”

The couple have previously shared Lyla’s middle name with fans – Maria, which is a nod to her grandmother, Maria Shriver. And, apparently, the choice of the middle name comes from a family tradition.

“Well, we didn’t know if it was gonna be a boy or girl so I knew that I always wanted to incorporate my Mom’s name if it was a little girl,” she said. “Because I’m Katherine Eunice, so I’m named after my grandma.”

“So I wanted to definitely continue that tradition on,” she added. “But I think she was very pleasantly surprised by the name.”

Aww…cute!
