Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara are getting candid about their health journey—and this time, they’re not holding back. In a new episode of their Workin’ On It podcast, the couple shared that they’re both currently taking Mounjaro, a diabetes medication that’s increasingly being used for weight loss. And as with everything in their lives, they’re doing it as a team.

Earlier this month, Meghan, 31, confirmed she’d started taking Mounjaro to help manage her weight. Now, her husband Daryl, 32, is opening up too.

“So, I did it, too,” Daryl casually said during the episode, revealing he’s also on the medication.

The couple, who’ve been married since 2019 and share two sons—Riley and Barry—explained why they made the choice together. And as it turns out, it wasn’t a snap decision.

“We did 75 Hard after [our son] Riley was born and, man, did we crush,” Meghan recalled, referencing the intense fitness and mental discipline challenge that includes daily workouts and strict eating habits. “Then, we heard more and more of our friends — and even our doctors — were on Mounjaro and Ozempic.”

At first, Meghan wasn’t so sure. “I was like, ‘I don’t want any of that,’ and ‘I know how to do it on my own,’” she explained. But curiosity—and good advice—won out. “I could do that, but when I asked my doctor, I was like, ‘Tell me everything.’ I did the research, and I felt safe.”

What drew them to Mounjaro specifically was that it “had less side effects” compared to other weight-loss medications. They’re also both on the lowest possible dose and being extremely intentional about how they incorporate it into their lifestyle.

“We were like, ‘We have to make sure we don’t lose muscle that we worked so hard gaining all those years,’” Meghan said. “We stay in the gym, we work out, we eat right, and we just noticed that we were less hungry.”

Daryl added that he had also gained a bit of sympathy weight during Meghan’s pregnancies and was ready to get back into a healthier routine. “I also gained some [sympathy] pregnancy weight,” he shared. “We’ve been on this journey for a while and we learned how there are right ways to do it.”

One of the biggest takeaways for them? Portion control.

“I had no portion control,” Daryl admitted, with Meghan chiming in that his portions were practically “Cheesecake Factory”-sized—even when the food was technically healthy.

“I’ve learned so much about portions,” Meghan said. “I’m like, ‘Remember how big your stomach is.’ I don’t want to bug him and I always do. He’s like, ‘Are you fat-shaming me?’ I’m like, ‘No, babe, I’m looking out for you.’ Our eyes are hungrier than our stomachs. I blame where we live [because] the portion sizes are ridiculous.”

To combat that, they made a simple but effective change at home: downsizing their plates.

“I learned all these little tricks that changed my life,” Meghan shared. “I literally bought smaller plates ‘cause I’m like, ‘No, you can’t put too much rice on there.’ … I’m obsessed now with the science of when I work out and build muscle, you have to eat protein or else it’s not going to do anything.”

It’s not just about looking good for the couple—it’s about feeling good, too. Meghan says she’s learned so much about her body and how to take care of it in a sustainable, healthy way.

“I’m really proud of myself for learning,” she said. “It was really hard to do and I’m going to keep getting better and keep getting stronger, achieve things I never thought I could achieve and no one can stop me — not even mean comments.”

For Meghan and Daryl, the decision to take Mounjaro wasn’t about quick fixes. It’s about doing the work—together—and finding balance that works for their lifestyle. And judging by how open and honest they’re being about it, they’re hoping to normalize these conversations for others too.
