Olivia Munn is speaking out on her silence.
In an interview for the Los Angeles Times, the 41-year-old actress and host explained why she chooses not to refute certain speculations regarding her relationship with John Mulaney. Olivia and John have been linked since May of this year, right after it was revealed that John and his wife had separated.
In September, news broke that Olivia and John were expecting a baby.
Since their relationship first became public, the two have been plagued by speculations regarding a possible overlap between their relationship timeline and his divorce timeline. More recently, more speculations have surfaced – this time, the rumors were of Olivia and John breaking up even before their baby was born.
In the midst of all of this, Olivia has maintained silence, choosing not to address the rumors and speculations. Now, she’s revealed her reasons for doing so.
About the speculations, Olivia said:
“It’s definitely not foreign for me to have people speculate incorrectly about things and to have rumors run rampant in one way. They think they know our relationship so well. When in reality, they don’t.
There’s no way anyone could know what any of his relationships were or what our relationship is.”
She stated that she has “chosen not to refute specific claims” because doing so would then “feed into a narrative that’s just not true.” Olivia went on to say that people tend to “ignore really specific public signs and actions that completely contradict the false narrative.”
Olivia then declared:
“For whatever reason, it’s easier to blame me.
If I try to say anything, I run the risk of being called messy or not telling the truth. The only way to win, for me, is to pull back and to not play the game at all.”
