Zayn Malik left fans in Newcastle stunned on Tuesday (December 3) after cancelling his concert minutes before it was to begin. The unexpected announcement came as concertgoers were already seated, eagerly waiting for the 31-year-old singer to hit the stage.

The official announcement, shared with fans inside the venue, apologized for the abrupt cancellation: “We apologize for the late notice. It was his hope that he would be able to continue with the show, but this is no longer possible. Please contact your point of purchase for reschedule or refunds. If you have parents or guardians collecting you, please stay in the auditorium and wait to be collected,” read the statement, according to the Daily Mail.

Shortly after, Zayn took to his Instagram Story to personally explain the situation.

“I’m so sorry to do this, but my voice just isn’t there at all tonight and without it there’s no show,” he wrote, addressing his fans directly. “I’m truly sorry to let you down, especially at such short notice… I held onto hope until the very last moment.”

Despite his disappointment, Zayn assured fans that he’s doing everything he can to recover quickly: “I’m hopeful with some rest tonight I’ll be back on stage tomorrow. My deepest apologies Newcastle. Love you all xx.”

Zayn’s next scheduled concert is in Manchester on Wednesday (December 4), and fans are hopeful that the extra rest will allow him to perform as planned. Following that, he is set to take the stage in Edinburgh for back-to-back rescheduled shows on Sunday (December 8) and Monday (December 9).

This latest hurdle comes just a week after a standout moment in Zayn’s tour when he dedicated a song to the late Liam Payne during a performance in Liam’s hometown. The tribute was praised as heartfelt and emotional, adding a deeply personal layer to his show.

Here’s hoping Zayn’s voice makes a full recovery, and he’s able to continue giving fans the performances they’ve been waiting for.
