Hilary Duff and the rest of the Lizzie McGuire cast kicked off the week with some nostalgic fun.
Although the future of the Lizzie McGuire reboot is still unknown, fans can still get to see the entire cast reunite in celebration of a special Lizzie McGuire occasion: “This week marks the 19th anniversary of this episode ‘Between a Rock and a Bra Place!’” Hilary wrote on Instagram.
Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire), Adam Lamberg (Gordo), Lalaine (Miranda), Robert Carradine (Sam), Hallie Todd (Jo), Ashlie Brillault (Kate Sanders), Davida Williams (Claire) and Kyle Downes (Larry Tudgeman), plus writers Nina and Jeremy Bargiel and Bob Thomas, all got together (virtually) for a table read of the episode – and, of course, reminisce. And, yes, cartoon Lizzie also made an appearance!
Hilary revealed that she got the call for the reunion from her onscreen little bro.
“I got the most amazing phone call last week from Jake Thomas,” Hilary explained in the introduction to the video. “I thought, there’s no better way to cure boredom and to provide a little bit of entertainment for everyone stuck at home.”
And the reunion is for a good cause – to support the charities Frontline Responders, No Kid Hungry, Baby2Baby, Support + Feed, and the L.A. and New York food banks.
Lizzie McGuire virtual cast reunion is just one of the many happening to help raise funds for charity amid the coronavirus crisis. Another beloved show getting its cast back together is Community.
Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong, as well as creator Dan Harmon, will be reading the season 5 episode “Cooperative Polygraphy.”
Ahead of the virtual table read, Gillian, Donald , Danny, Yvette, Jim, and Dan reunited on Ken and Joel’s podcast, Darkest Timeline, where it was revealed that many of them still keep in touch via their group chat. The thing is, apparently, Donald isn’t part of it.
As they were reminiscing about the good old days, Yvette asked Gillian to share a video on their group chat, which got Donald all like, “”There’s a group chat? I’m not in this group chat.”
“You’re not in the group chat?” Yvette asked.
“I literally, after this, I literally was going to be like, ‘We should have a group chat.’ There’s no group chat?!” Donald replied.
“I think we assumed you were too busy, Donald,” Yvette said.
“So, y’all didn’t put me in this group chat,” Donald sulked, as everyone started laughing. “Wow, it is kind of funny. Afterwards I was going to be like, ‘I should start a group chat.’ If I had started one, would you guys have told me there was one already?”
“No, no we wouldn’t. We wouldn’t have said it,” Ken admitted.
Community ended it’s run in 2015 after six seasons, but the upcoming virtual table read has reawakened fans’ hopes that an old prophecy about the show will be fulfilled: “Six seasons and a movie!”
According to Dan, they may be one step closer to making it come true.
“I can tell people for sure that the enthusiasm for Community both for all of this time and the resurgence of it [on Netflix], there’s always an aspect of that [that] affects the marketplace,” Dan said in a recent interview with The Wrap. “And when the marketplace gets affected, conversations happen. And when conversations happen, things happen.”
“I mean, when you’re part of the Community family, you learn never to raise expectations, keep ‘em nice and low and then be pleasantly surprised. So I can say that there are conversations happening that people would want to be happening and that I’m very, very excited about the coming months.”
The virtual reunion will air on May 18 on Sony Pictures TV’s YouTube page. Proceeds from the show will benefit of COVID-19 relief efforts, with donations being made to José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and Frontline Foods, which are helping provide food for frontline workers and vulnerable communities amid the coronavirus pandemic. Fans will also be asked to donate, if they are able, to the Community fund.
Let’s keep out fingers crossed for that movie, too!
