Hilary Duff is sharing her thoughts on the much-anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot that unfortunately ended up not pushing through at Disney+.

If you can remember, much of the cast had already announced their return to the beloved show and work had already begun on the reboot when it was cancelled. The reason for the cancellation at the time was that creator Terri Minsky wanted and intended to steer the show in a more grown up direction to match Lizzie’s current age, but Disney did not have the same vision.

In a new interview with the Cut, Hilary, who played the iconic titular role of Lizzie, touched on the topic of the show, saying:

“I don’t love to talk about this, because the internet seems to explode whenever Lizzie stuff is brought up.”

She went on to reveal if she thinks another reboot could definitely be in the works sometime in the future:

“I think there’s always a possibility there. And even if she’s 40, I don’t think people care.

It’s always going to be somewhat interesting to people to see where she ended up.”

Just this January, Hilary opened up in detail about what the plot of the shelved Disney+ reboot would have been:

“My character was moving back home with her parents because she caught her soon-to-be fiancé cheating on her. She was falling flat on her face at the moment and being like, ‘I need to pivot because everything that I thought was wasn’t, and I’m turning 30. What the f–k?’”

She also candidly spoke about the axing of the reboot:

“In my 34 years, I’ve realized that everything does happen for a reason. There’s a time and a place for everything. It just wasn’t her moment. I’m constantly asked about it still.

All it does is breathe life into the fact that people still want it, and that’s really sweet. It’s not dead, and it’s not alive.”
