Harry Potter fans are in a flurry over reports that Emma Watson may be retiring from acting.
ICYMI, Emma sparked engagement rumors earlier this month after she was spotted packing on the PDA with rumored beau Leo Robinton AND sporting a ring on ~that~ finger – a modest band, but it was enough to get fans freaking out.
Then, in a February 20 report, The Daily Mail claims that according to her agent, Emma has gone “dormant,” with a source adding, “Emma has gone underground, she is settling down with Leo. They’re laying low. Maybe she wants a family.”
And, adding more fuel to the fire is her Instagram profile, which reads, “Emma’s official Instagram page is currently dormant and is not being updated.”
Her name became a trending topic on Twitter, where fans were majorly reacting to the alleged retirement news.
“EMMA WATSON IS RETIRING WHAT DONT TALK TO ME PLEASE,” one person wrote.
“Emma watson has given us some of the most iconic roles. i’m wishing her all the best for the future. she deserves this,” another tweeted.
“I’m wishing her the absolute best & regardless of what happens to the future of her career. I’m just gonna appreciate these amazing roles she left for us,” yet another shared.
“Emma Watson’s retiring is something very personal to me. No I will not be getting over this,” one fan shared.
“This is a devastation,” another expressed.
“Emma Watson is retiring. I thought 2021 was supposed to be better,” a Twitter user mused.
Emma’s been in the spotlight since she was nine, and has brought to life many iconic roles – including Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger, Beauty And The Beasts’ Belle, and Little Women’s Meg March. She’s also been using her platform to shine the light on issues like police brutality, women’s equality and rights for the transgender community – something which fans also showed their appreciation for.
“For Emma Watson to retire from acting is something I’m not ready for. Over the years Emma taught us that women don’t need a man, that women are not always princesses in need of a rescue, and that women are strong, intelligent, and independent. Thanks for everything,” one fan wrote.
“Emma Watson retiring is so bittersweet. Couldn’t thank her enough for all the confidence she inspired in me growing up, it’s a devastating thing to hear but I’m also so incredibly happy for her choosing to retire. Can’t wait to see what amazing things she does next,” another tweeted.
While it’s celebrities are known to take a break from the spotlight from time to time, there’s been much debate on whether is Emma really leaving the bright lights of Hollywood and quitting acting for good.
Fortunately, Emma’s manager, Jason Weinberg from Untitled Entertainment is putting fans’ worries to rest – she’s not retiring, guys!
“Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t,” he said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
