Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attorney has addressed recent reports concerning the rapper’s mental state while he remains in jail. Following a second bail denial, Diddy, 54, is awaiting trial on serious charges, including three counts of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
On Thursday (September 19), it was reported that Diddy had been placed on suicide watch in jail, a claim that raised concerns about his well-being. However, the very next day, his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, spoke out to set the record straight and update the public on Diddy’s condition.
In a statement to TMZ, Agnifilo clarified that the decision to place Diddy under suicide watch is not based on any real threat to his life but is a standard procedure for high-profile inmates entering the system. “[It’s routine for] new, high-profile inmates,” Agnifilo explained, putting an end to rumors that Diddy might be in a fragile mental state.
Agnifilo went on to share that he had spent six hours with Diddy at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, where the rapper is currently being held. After their lengthy meeting, Agnifilo offered reassuring news about Diddy’s state of mind, saying the rapper is “not at all suicidal.” He stressed that Diddy is handling the situation well, remaining “strong, healthy, confident, and focused on his defense.”
With no confirmed trial date yet, Diddy’s time in jail may stretch on as he awaits further developments in his case.
