The engagement is officially off for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez.

The two announced the split in a joint statement. “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects,” they said.

“We wish the best for each other and one another’s children,” they continued, referencing J.Lo’s twins, 13-year-old Max and Emma whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Antony, and A-Rod’s kids, 16-year-old Natasha and 12-year-old Ella whom he shares with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis. “Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to every one who has sent kind words and support.”

The news comes more than a month since breakup rumors began swirling around the now-former couple. At the time though, they addressed the split speculations in a joint statement saying, “All reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things.”

However, fans are understandably shocked – J.Lo and A-Rod were spotted packing on the PDA in the Dominican Republic just last month, when the 51-year-old actress was filming her upcoming movie Shotgun Wedding there. Plus, according to multiple reports, it appeared hopeful that the couple were going to work things out – however, it looks like things have changed since.

J.Lo and A-Rod started dating in 2017 and became engaged in 2019. Just a few hours before news of their split dropped, A-Rod also went on Instagram Story to share a short clip featuring photos from their life together – including one of him and J.Lo looking all glammed up and couple-y from NYE 2020, another their kids having fun together, and a photo of their names written on the sand surrounded by a heart, presumably from their 2019 Bahamas trip where he proposed.

J.Lo’s photos on Instagram over the past week may have provided a clue to where their relationship was headed though – she posted a bunch of photos with her engagement ring notably missing from her hand.
