Jacob Elordi takes his craft seriously — and he’s not afraid to speak out when he feels his voice should be heard on set.
In a recent interview for GQ’s first-ever Hype issue, the 25-year-old actor opened up about his work on The Kissing Booth, the Netflix film series that shot him to stardom.
Jacob, who played Noah Flynn in the popular movie trilogy based on the book series by Beth Reekles, shared that he “went to war” for a character he strongly felt should be included in the movie — though ultimately, he did not win. He stated:
“I remember saying, ‘He smokes in the book. I need to smoke. He needs to have cigarettes. He’s a bad boy.”
He went on, talking about how much he believed that this should be part of his portrayal of Noah:
“I was like, ‘This is bullsh-t!’ I remember going to war for it. I was like, ‘Are we lying to the f–king millions of 14-year-olds out there? This guy smokes nicotine. It says here on page four—look!’ I imagine people were just like, ‘Jesus f–king Christ. Is this guy serious?’”
He also spoke about the fame he suddenly got after the film dropped on the streaming service:
“It felt like, all of a sudden, I was a poster. Like I was a billboard. It felt like it was for sale. Then my brain went through the f-cking wringer. Like, I wasn’t sure if I was genuine. It really skews your view…. It creates a very paranoid way of living.”
And Jacob also revealed that becoming so famous in the blink of an eye because of the first movie almost made him quit being an actor:
“It might sound quite sensitive and dramatic, but I am sensitive and I’m very dramatic. I hated being a character to the public.
I felt so far from myself.”
