James Gunn is addressing that rumor about Henry Cavill.
The DC Universe is going through a major overhaul, with projects being scrapped and stars’ fates up in the air. James and his DC co-Chairman and CEO Peter Safran recently made several huge announcements, unveiling the entire slate of upcoming projects — and they also touched on the matter of Henry’s rumored firing as Superman.
James revealed that Henry is no longer Superman. But, he stressed that the actor was not actually ever fired. James clarified that Henry was never cast again as the Man of Steel:
“We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast.
He was in a cameo and that was the end of his story.”
He went on to say about all the speculations:
“A lot of people made assumptions which weren’t true. But for me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers want to cast.”
James did go on to say that he thinks Henry is great and that he may have not been treated as well as he could have been, stating:
“For me, for this [new] story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry. He’s a great guy.
I think he’s gotten kicked around by a lot of people including former regimes of this company. But this Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.”
A new Superman movie will be released in 2025, however a casting decision is yet to be made.
