Jason Derulo is addressing the serious allegations made against him by aspiring singer Emaza Gibson. She has filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual harassment, breach of contract, illegal retaliatory termination, and more, alleging that he ended their working relationship after she rejected his sexual advances.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims that Jason “maliciously” denied Emaza the opportunities she was promised. Emaza’s attorney strongly condemned Jason’s behavior, stating, “Mr. Derulo’s behavior toward this young artist was despicable. He not only broke promises and breached contracts, but his threats of physical harm and unconscionable sexual advances toward this young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal.”
Emaza, a 25-year-old aspiring singer, had eagerly accepted an offer to work with Jason, Atlantic Records, and Future History to release a mixtape, an album, and a single featuring Jason within six months of signing her initial contract in August 2021. She considered Jason her “mentor” but was shocked when she claimed she was pressured to engage in sex rituals and cocaine use to succeed.
Emaza also alleged that Jason repeatedly pressured her to have drinks with him despite her refusal to meet with him outside of a professional setting. After declining to drink and engage in sexual activities with him, she said he ceased all communication with her, and in September 2022, she was informed that Atlantic and Future History had terminated her contract.
In response to these allegations, Jason Derulo posted a video statement on his Instagram account. He expressed his strong denial of the accusations, emphasizing that they are “completely false and hurtful.” Jason also declared his stand against all forms of harassment and reiterated his support for those pursuing their dreams:
“I wouldn’t normally comment but these claims are completely false and hurtful.
I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams. I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended by these defamatory claims. God bless.”
