Jenna Ortega is getting very real about her experiences while filming Wednesday.
The 20-year-old star of the hit Netflix show had previously shared how she took lessons for cello and fencing to prepare, and how she contracted COVID at one point during filming of season one.
Recently, she went into further detail about her very grueling schedule during a Q&A with Variety. She said:
“It was show up to set two hours early, do that 12-14 hour day, then go home and then get on a Zoom and have whatever lesson that I had. Or show up to my apartment, my cello teacher was already waiting for me.
It was just constantly going, and if you could on a weekend, if we weren’t shooting the sixth day that week, it was ‘All right, well then, we’ll get your lessons in on that day.’”
She went on to talk about how the “Paint It Black” cello sequence was particularly hard to get down, as she had to switch teachers due to location changes and because the piece was meant for two cellos and she was only doing it with one. Jenna revealed how all this took a huge toll on her emotionally:
“I did not get any sleep. I pulled my hair out.
There’s so many FaceTime calls that my dad answered of me hysterically crying.”
Jenna added that producer and director Tim Burton assured her that she would do well:
“Oh, don’t worry, you’re going to do great. It’s gonna look great.”
