Jenny March is unapologetically herself and that’s what makes her music so relatable.
“I write lyrics like I’m texting,” she explains. “It’s that direct. The music reflects my life. The message is that girls can have fun too. We can do the same things that guys do—like partying or going out. You don’t have to worry about what anyone else thinks. I just decided to do me in the music.”
From the young girl from Cincinnati who moved to Los Angeles when she was 14 to pursue her dreams, Jenny’s star is rising fast. Her mesmerizing debut single “California Daze” and the euphoric summer jam “Talk To Me” to her moving follow-up “Normal In Love” and her raw cover of Madison Beer’s “Hurts Like Hell,” her songs have already garnered millions of streams collectively. She’s also worked with Dutch DJ CMC$’s for his track “Love Parade” and was featured on “Bottle It Up” with KXA.
Now, she’s out with an infectious new bop, “FUWY,” a track about getting lost with the person you long for the most – and guaranteed to make it into your playlist. Check it out here:
POPSTAR!’s got the goods on how the song came to be – straight from the talented artist herself! Get to know all about Jenny March and her new single “FUWY” with our Q&A below.
POPSTAR!: When did you first fall in love with music?
Jenny: I fell in love with music when I was a little girl. I would stand in front of the TV singing and dancing along to the artists on MTV. I loved watching them perform and the way it made me feel. After that, I wouldn’t stop performing, anywhere I was. I always wanted to be the center of attention. Haha
POPSTAR!: What made you pursue music as a career path?
Jenny: When I moved out to LA originally for acting, I realized how many opportunities that were here, both in acting and music. I didn’t know how to go about getting in the music business at first. Acting seemed like the easier way in, which was also something I was passionate about. Once I met and saw other people doing it, I was like, “oh.. if they can do it I can” and so I went for it and now here I am.
POPSTAR!: Who are some of your biggest musical inspirations?
Jenny: I grew up listening to female powerhouses like Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Madonna. Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of Billie Eilish and Ella Mai.
POPSTAR!: What is your song writing process like?
Jenny: It really depends with every song. My sweet spot is in the car when I’m driving. I’m not sure why but a lot of song ideas come to me then. Sometimes a producer will have a track already started and that will spark an idea. When I have something that’s been stuck on my mind I like to start playing chords on my piano and just feel whatever comes out.
POPSTAR!: What is your single “FUWY” about?
Jenny: This song is about being so in love, you’re blinded from the other person’s wrong actions. You keep making excuses for their mistakes because you want so bad to see the good in them. It’s about a f–ked up relationship where you both enjoy being “f–ked up” together.
POPSTAR!: What is your favorite moment recording “FUWY”?
Jenny: Well I recorded ‘FUWY’ almost 2 years ago. It’s definitely strange when stuff like this happens, but it’s pretty normal in this industry. The timing just worked out like this. My favorite moment recording this song was towards the end of the recording process. I had this run in mind that I wanted to sing but thought I wasn’t going to be able to hit the note. My producer was like “nah you got this, just go for it” and I ended up hitting it on one take. It’s at the end of the song.
POPSTAR!: What can Fans Expect this year?
Jenny: I’m going to be performing a lot more throughout the year which makes me really happy. I’m writing a lot of new music too. My sound has been evolving a little bit so I’m excited to hear everyone’s thoughts. By the end of the year I should have a lot to release and maybe even an EP.
