Jessica Simpson is making her long-awaited return to music, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear what she’s been working on.
On Wednesday (February 12), the 44-year-old singer, entrepreneur, and fashion mogul took to Instagram to announce the upcoming release of her new single, Use My Heart Against Me. The song, set to drop on February 21, marks her first new music in years and comes at a pivotal time—just weeks after news of her split from husband Eric Johnson.
In a behind-the-scenes video shared on social media, Jessica offered a glimpse into her recording process, featuring clips from the studio and conversations with her collaborators. Fans also got to hear a snippet of the song, in which she sings, “Go on, use my heart against me. Don’t miss you. Don’t confuse my love.”
A collaborator in the clip teased, “It’s an album where I think you’re seeing someone take control of their own artistry.” The statement hints that Jessica’s upcoming project could be her most personal work yet.
Jessica’s last studio album, Happy Christmas, was released in 2010, while her last album of original music, Do You Know, came out in 2008. In recent years, she has shared a few tracks tied to her 2020 memoir Open Book, but they never made it to streaming platforms. In 2021, she did release a deeply personal cover, but Use My Heart Against Me signals a full-fledged comeback.
With her personal and professional life evolving, Jessica’s return to music couldn’t come at a more fitting time.
