Jessie J is opening up about a scary incident which ended up in a trip to the hospital on Christmas Eve.
The 32-year-old singer revealed in an Instagram Story video how she had woken up with some pretty worrying symptoms – including deafness in one ear and being unable to walk properly. After going to the hospital, she found out she was suffering from something called Meniere’s Disease – an inner-ear condition that can cause dizzy spells or vertigo, per Mayo Clinic.
“I woke up and felt like I was completely deaf in my right ear, couldn’t walk in a straight line,” Jessie explained.
“Basically I got told I had Meniere’s syndrome,” she continued. “I know that a lot of people suffer from it and I’ve actually had a lot of people reach out to me and give me great advice, so I’ve just been laying low in silence. Now’s the first time I’ve been able to sing and bear it.”
The ”Bang Bang” singer was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease and was prescribed medication. She was later sent home and advised to get plenty of rest. But, apparently, the rest bit didn’t come so easily for Jessie.
“I am now watching Queens Gambit with my finger in my ear. I’ve done the first episode 4 times because I zero focus and my ear sounds like someone crawled in and turned a hair dryer on,” she wrote in another Instagram Story.
According to Mayo Clinic, Meniere’s disease is considered a chronic condition. Thankfully, the meds are helping and she’s now on the mend. She also reassured fans that she’s doing much better.
“It could be way worse, it is what it is. I’m super grateful for my health. It just threw me off. On Christmas Eve I was in the ear hospital going, ‘What is going on?’ But I’m glad I went early and they worked out what it was real quick and I got put on the right medicine, so I feel a lot better today,” Jessie continued.
ICYMI, this isn’t the first time Jessie has had health struggles. In her book, Nice To Meet You, she revealed she was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat when she was seven. Last year, she also opened up about her infertility diagnosis during her Rose Tour concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Still, Jessie isn’t about to let her new illness get her down. On Christmas Eve, she went on Instagram to reflect on how different Christmas is this year, and spread some holiday love.
“Sending LOVE to everyone who needs it, is or isn’t alone. We all need some extra love. This Christmas might be a little off. BUT one in a lifetime isn’t bad when some people haven’t had one good one in their lifetime,” she wrote. “Think about what you do have this week, not what you don’t.”
