After making a splash on the red carpet on Thursday (July 8) for the premiere of her film After Yang at the Cannes Film Festival, Jodie Turner-Smith had a scary experience during her stay in the French city.
Multiple outlets report that her hotel room was broken into the next day while she was down at breakfast and was robbed several tens of thousands of Euros worth of jewellery. According to Variety, the actress’ mother’s wedding ring was among the pieces stolen.
According to French publication Nice-Matin, there was no forced entry to the room and an investigation is underway.
Following the incident, Jodie, who was travelling with one-year-old daughter Janie, whom she shares with husband Joshua Jackson, was immediately moved to another hotel a few blocks away and given a large security detail.
Despite the traumatic incident, Jodie continued to make appearances and interviews during her stay in Cannes.
On Sunday (July 11), she went on social media and seemingly addressed the robbery, tweeting, “didn’t think i would be spending 2.5 hours in the police station on my final day in cannes, but here we are…”
Per Variety, it’s believed the robbers may have been after the gold-and-diamond jewellery from Gucci’s collection that she wore to the premiere. While the jewellery pieces were returned to Gucci immediately after the event, it’s believed that the robbers may not have known that.
Jodie’s rep is yet to respond to requests for comment.
