Joshua Bassett is getting a lot of attention for a statement he issued amid fan concerns over his social media activity.
The 22-year-old High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star, who portrays Ricky Bowen in the show, has fans expressing concern because of his recent tweets over the holidays. His tweets were about dealing with struggles and finding Jesus Christ.
Around Christmastime, he wrote:
“Most people I know, including myself, are struggling right now. Please be good to yourselves and others, reach out to support those you love, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
A week later, he wrote:
Jesus Christ is the only way. His death and resurrection are historically documented. Turn away from hate, seek forgiveness and come back to Him.”
Now, amidst growing concern from his fanbase, he is opening up about his faith even more.
In a statement released on Instagram Stories, he talked about encountering Jesus two times. Here’s what he said:
“A few months ago I asked God to ‘send me a sign when I write the truth.’ I typed ‘Jesus is the way,’ nothing happened, then I added, ‘Jesus is the *only* way’ and the light turned on in my living room.
I have also first hand encountered Jesus twice. The experience’s [sic] were richer and more vivid than anything in my entire life. I look forward to speaking about it soon.”
His statement included a message to all those who were worrying about him:
“For those concerned about me be sure of this: I’m better than I have ever been. The peace I feel is far beyond what I thought possible.”
