Joshua Bassett is getting candid about his health — and how his rumored ex Olivia Rodrigo’s single Driver’s License led to his hospitalization last year.
It’s long been rumored that Joshua, 21, and Olivia, 19, were in a relationship before and that Olivia’s debut solo single is about their breakup. The two never confirmed that they were together.
In an interview with People, Joshua about the stressful time he had due to the whole situation and the severe public scrutiny he was all of a sudden under:
“If I look at my last year, the difference between the good days and the not good days comes down to whether I took time for myself. In the weeks leading up to his medical episode, he said “every day I felt worse and worse.
I was sleeping 16 to 20 hours a day. I couldn’t even stand up for longer than 30 seconds.”
Days after Driver’s License dropped, he released his song Lie Lie Lie, which according to him had been slated to be released that day for a while already despite the timing:
‘I felt my heart literally failing. I was like, ‘This isn’t just anxiety. This is bad.”
Joshua then headed straight to the hospital:
“The doctors were like, ‘If you hadn’t checked in within 12 hours, you would have died in your apartment.
It’s wild that I was this close to taking another nap.”
He stated that the illness may have been stress-induced.
Nine days later, Joshua was discharged from the hospital. However, he was still very much concerned with his mental health:
“I was even more depressed and stressed.I had a panic attack every single day.
My therapist, she loves the song Set Me Free, but every time she hears it, she goes, ‘Only you can set yourself free.’
I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get it. I get it.’ But I do understand now that it really is me who can give myself permission to move on. Ultimately, I was the one who had to set myself free.”
