After a traumatic start to the year, Joshua Jackson is bringing some light—quite literally—into his and his daughter’s life.

The Doctor Odyssey actor shared an emotional and colorful update on Instagram this week: he’s transformed a room in their rental home into a vibrant, rainbow-themed space for his 4-year-old daughter Juno. The gesture is both a promise kept and a way to bring some joy after the family lost their Los Angeles home to wildfires earlier this year.

Alongside a series of photos showing bright, hand-painted walls and a cheery blue-sky ceiling, Joshua recalled a sweet—and now poignant—conversation he had with Juno months earlier.

“JR: Daddy, when we build the new house we should have a rainbow room,” Joshua wrote, referencing Juno’s request. “Daddy: I got you, kiddo. JR: With a blue sky roof. Daddy: I got you ki— JR: And pink. There needs to be pink. Daddy:… Yes ma’am.”

And now? Promise fulfilled.

In his caption, Joshua opened up about what this small room has come to mean: “Last month I posted a story about our house burning down. First, I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out and kept reaching out—it means so much during these times.”

He added that before the fire, the rainbow room had been a back-burner project. Between work obligations and life’s general chaos, the dream space kept getting delayed.

“I was working and I couldn’t quite figure out where to do it and yadda yadda… I didn’t do it,” he admitted. “Which I now really regret.”

But in the wake of losing their home, Joshua found a way to bring some brightness into Juno’s life. With a little help from understanding landlords (“huge thanks to my landlords for not batting an eye when I asked them if I could paint their walls ‘rainbow’”), he brought her vision to life.

It’s more than just paint on walls. It’s a deeply personal, healing gesture for both of them. “Because while I can’t give her a new house (yet), we can certainly have some rainbows along the way,” he wrote. “We’re doing alright… to be continued.”

The heartfelt post immediately resonated with fans, many of whom praised him for turning a difficult moment into a creative act of love. And for anyone who’s been through a disaster—natural or otherwise—it’s a reminder that small acts of joy and normalcy matter, especially for kids.

Joshua shares Juno with his ex-wife, actress Jodie Turner-Smith. Though the couple announced their separation in late 2023, both have remained devoted parents, focused on co-parenting their daughter in the wake of personal and environmental upheaval.

While Joshua has kept much of his personal life private over the years, he’s been increasingly open about fatherhood and how it’s changed him. In previous interviews, he’s spoken about how becoming a dad reshaped his priorities, and how Juno’s imaginative, curious nature has become a guiding force in his life.
