Joshua Jackson may just be the biggest Pacey & Joey stan!

During EW’s Role Call, the 43-year-old actor took us through some of his most iconic roles — and revealed that no one believed that Katie Holmes’ Joey Potter and his Pacey Witter belonged together more than Josh himself.

Josh recounted how he fought very hard for Pacey and Joey to end up together:

“I am the advocate! I was like ‘Hell no! No. No. No. That’s not gonna work for me.’

I had a whole conversation with Kevin [Williamson] about this. Like, ‘Look, I get it. This is the idea that you had in your head, but I’m just gonna ask you to watch the tale of the tape and this is the more interesting end for these characters.”

Interestingly enough, the iconic series’ very own Dawson Leary aka James Van Der Beek has also admitted that this was the way the show needed to end. During the 2018 EW Reunion with the Dawson’s Creek cast, James said about Pacey & Joey:

“It felt right to me. It seemed like it made more sense.”

Josh and Katie’s undeniable chemistry as Pacey and Joey throughout the show’s six season run was palpable and elevated the on-screen pairing as one of the most iconic TV couples in modern pop culture. Josh shared that he always looked forward to scripts surrounding the couple’s story:

“I remember being most excited about the episode where Katie and I… it’s just the two of us, we’re stuck in a Walmart or something after hours.

In the sort of slug of doing television, it was so nice for her and I to have the opportunity to get the script ahead of time and then be able to really work on it and have that playtime together. That’s the one [episode] that really sticks out in my memory.”
