Julia Fox is sorry.

The 32-year-old actress has issued an apology after she commented on a video on TikTok that at first look would seem to be about makeup. In reality, the video was about sexual assault.

For those who may not be aware, there is a new trend on TikTok where users use the term “mascara” when discussing serious sexual topics freely, without the fear of experiencing censorship. “Mascara” is being used to replace terms like “seggs” which have likewise been used in reference to sex.

Julia apparently was unaware of this trend. She found herself facing backlash after she left a comment on a video where someone was opening up about sexual assault they experienced.

A text on the screen over the video read:

“I gave this one girl mascara one time and it must’ve been so good that she decided that her and her friend should both try it without my consent.”

Julia saw the video and seemed to think it was just discussing mascara, so she then took to the comments section to make a joke about the clip. She wrote:

“Idk why but I don’t feel bacd for u.”

She also added “lol.”

What she wrote prompted many other users to call her out. The initial poster also wrote back, saying:

“You don’t feel bad that I was sexually assaulted?”

Julia’s initial comments now seems to have been deleted. She did however return to make an apology, writing:

“Hey babe I’m so sorry I really thought u were talking about mascara like as in make up. I’m sorry that happened to u.”

In a separate message, she went on to say:

“I wasn’t on the side of TikTok that was doing this trend and I thought u were talking about getting ur makeup stolen!!!!

I’m sorry baby I hope ur ok.”
