Jussie Smollett has gotten out of prison.

The 39-year-old former Empire actor was officially released from Chicago prison after just six days of incarceration. He was escorted out of the Cook County Department of Corrections detention center on Wednesday night (March 16).

Earlier that same day, it was ruled by an appeals court that Jussie could be released from prison after spending six days locked up out of his 150-day sentence. He was sentenced just last week after he was found guilty of faking a hate crime attack back in 2019.

It was decided by the court that Jussie could be released after he posted a personal recognizance bond of $150,000. This means that he does not have to put down money but has agreed to come to court as required.

The actor’s lawyers argued that Jussie would have finished his sentence by the time his appeal process was completed. They also stated that Jussie could be in danger of physical harm should he remain in prison.
