Kate Beckinsale isn’t one to shy away from speaking her mind, especially when it comes to defending herself against unfair criticism. The 50-year-old actress recently found herself in the crosshairs of online scrutiny after posting a video from the set of her upcoming movie, “Stolen Girl,” on Instagram. But instead of letting the negative comments slide, Kate decided to set the record straight and give her critics a piece of her mind.
In the now-deleted comments section of her post, one commenter took aim at Kate’s appearance, suggesting that she looked “too thin” and had lost her balance in terms of her weight. But Kate wasn’t about to let that slide. In a fiery response, she laid bare the personal struggles and hardships she’s been grappling with in recent months, shedding light on the very real and deeply painful experiences that have contributed to her weight loss.
“I nursed my stepdad to his death earlier this year. My mum also has stuff going on,” Kate revealed. “I am adjusting to watching two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year. I lost my soulmate cat of almost 19 years, also last year. I spent six weeks in the hospital due to copiously vomiting blood from a Mallory Weiss [tear] caused by the stress of a whole year ripping a hole between my esophagus and stomach.”
But the heartache doesn’t stop there. Kate went on to disclose the toll that childhood trauma and ongoing health struggles have taken on her, including a severe flare-up of her mast cell disease. “I am trying to survive what feels like unbearable losses, reactivated PTSD from discovering my very young father’s almost dead body as a very young child alone in the night, and working to support the family I have left,” she shared.
And as for the commenter’s unsolicited opinions about her appearance? Kate had some choice words for that, too. “What you think of my appearance and how I should look, independently of any circumstances in my life and my family’s, is not important,” she asserted. “The fact you feel your opinion is required to bully females about their appearance is relevant to me because it needs to stop feeling like it is your, or anyone’s right.”
In a final mic-drop moment, Kate made it clear that she wouldn’t entertain such negativity any longer. “I will not address this again,” she declared. “Do better.”
