Not a lot of people can hold their breath underwater for six minutes, let alone seven minutes and 14 seconds, but Kate Winslet can – and she’s pretty proud of it.

Kate has been busy filming Avatar 2, where she “had to learn how to free-dive” for her role. And back in August, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed one astounding feat she was able to accomplish during filming: “My longest breath hold was seven minutes and 14 seconds, like crazy, crazy stuff.”

The incredible feat breaks Tom Cruise’s record of holding his breath for six minutes while filming underwater for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

In a recent interview, Kate was actually surprised that her record-breaking accomplishment was public knowledge.

“It’s so funny because I don’t really read reviews or media things. I’m not on Instagram, like I’m just completely disconnected from that part of my life,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “So all of this week and the week before, I’ve had people coming up to me at work saying, ‘Oh my God, like seven minutes and 14 seconds? Like, what?!” And I’m going, ‘What? Hang on, wait a minute. How do you know that?'”

She went on to add that she’s actually pretty proud about pulling it off, which is “one of the things I love about the job. We’re very, very lucky as actors that often we have to learn a whole new skill.”

“It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again,” Kate said. “That came at the end of four weeks worth of quite intense training and it was in the dive tank, it was in the training tank. But I loved it.”
