For weeks, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been at the epicenter of swirling rumors of marriage woes and mounting speculations of an impending split – and then it happened: After almost seven years of marriage, Kim and Kanye are getting a divorce.

Kim filed for divorce on Friday (February 22). A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Superior Court confirmed the filing and a notice that the papers had been filed was later posted electronically.

The two share four children together – seven-year-old North, five-year-old Saint, three-year-old Chicago, and one-year-old Psalm. According to TMZ, Kim is asking for joint custody – both legal and physical – of their four kids. They also signed a prenup, which neither is reportedly contesting.

A source also tells Entertainment Tonight that the two have been over for a while. “Kim filed for divorce from Kanye, and it is amicable and there is no drama. They haven’t been a couple for quite some time, so the filing is no surprise to Kanye, Kim’s family, or anyone else in their inner circle.”

Page Six reported last month that Kim had hired celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser – and that Kim and Kanye have been in “settlement talks.”

Another source tells ET that Kim has been spending the recent weeks getting everything in order to make the divorce process as smooth as possible, and remains positive about co-parenting their four kids with Kanye.

“Kim has been spending this time getting everything in order so that the divorce can go as smooth as possible. It has been an overwhelming process, but the divorce is something she knew had to happen,” the source said. “Kim saw her parents co-parent successfully and sees Kourtney and Scott do the same thing and is hopeful that her situation will be no different. It is sad of course, but the marriage just wasn’t working for either of them anymore.”

The Kardashian-Jenner clan have been quite mum about the divorce and Kim was uncharacteristically radio silent on social media for two days after news of the divorce filing broke. However, on Sunday (February 21), Kim returned to Instagram to wish best friend Jonathan Cheban a happy birthday.

Based on the photos and videos she shared on Instagram Stories, it seemed like she was having a good time – she was teasing mom Kris Jenner, and she could be heard laughing in the background in one video. However, there also seemed to be a reflective moment where she shared two videos of the moon, with the song “Somewhere Out There” playing in the background.

Kim capped off her posts by sharing a throwback photo of her and Jonathan dressed as Sonny and Cher from Halloween 2017. “Happy birthday,” Kim wrote in the caption. “Love you forever.”
