Little Monsters, rejoice—Lady Gaga is officially back with a brand-new album!
The 38-year-old pop icon dropped her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Mayhem, at midnight on Friday (March 7), marking a return to her signature high-energy, dance-heavy sound. The album includes previously released hits like “Disease,” “Abracadabra,” and the electrifying duet “Die With a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars.
For longtime Gaga fans, Mayhem feels like a fusion of everything that has made her a global superstar—bold production, daring lyrics, and that unmistakable theatricality. But this time around, she took a fresh approach to the creative process.
“Artpop was a vibe. Joanne was a sound. Chromatica had a sound. All different. The Fame Monster was more chaotic. The Fame was theatrical pop. Born This Way, to me, had more of a metal electro New York vibe to it,” she explained in a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
Rather than sticking to a specific sonic theme, Gaga allowed herself to draw from a wide range of influences for Mayhem—a decision that reignited her passion for songwriting and production.
“I actually made the effort making Mayhem to not do that and not try to give my music an outfit. You know what I mean, but instead to allow myself to be influenced by everything,” she shared. “That was how I discovered my songwriting and production abilities as a kid, so that was a special experience. Then still some of that influence though, the electro grunge influence, made it still onto other songs that were some were industrial, some were like 2000 throwbacks, like ‘Garden of Eden.’ There’s a song called ‘Can’t Stop the High,’ that you haven’t heard, that’s on the version of the album that’s on my website only and that is a pure electro grunge record that goes even harder than ‘Perfect Celebrity’ does.”
Gaga’s return to the dancefloor is already making waves, with fans and critics praising Mayhem as a thrilling new chapter in her ever-evolving career. Whether you’re streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Tidal, or YouTube Music, this is an album you won’t want to miss.
And for collectors, physical copies of Mayhem are available on CD and vinyl via Amazon, with the vinyl also stocked at Walmart.
