Letitia Wright is reflecting on the future of Black Panther without her onscreen brother Chadwick Boseman.
It was previously announced that there would be a Black Panther sequel. The original film starred Chadwick in the titular role, along with stars including Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, and more.
Following Chadwick’s shocking passing from his years-long battle with colon cancer earlier this year, fans have speculated on the future on the franchise. Letitia, who played Shuri, T’Challa’s younger sister, in the original movie, as well as reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, recently opened up about the raw emotions that come with thinking about the sequel.
In a recent interview with Porter Magazine, Letitia shared, “We’re just still mourning Chad, so it’s not something I even want to think about.”
“The thought of doing it without him is kinda strange,” she added, “We’re just grieving at the moment, so it’s trying to find the light in the midst of it.”
Shortly after Chadwick’s passing, Letitia paid tribute to Chadwick with an emotional poem, which she recited in a video posted on social media.
“I messaged you a couple times, but I thought you were just busy. I didn’t know you were dealing with so much,” she said in the nearly six-minute long video. “But against all the odds, you remained focused on fulfilling your purpose with the time handed to you.”
“…I thought we had more time, and many more years to come, for more laughter,” the poem later continued, before concluding, “…And all that’s left now is for us to allow all the seeds that you have planted on the earth to grow, to blossom, to become even more beautiful. You’re forever in my heart. “
