10 months after Liam Payne and Maya Henry announced their engagement, Liam confirms that he and Maya have called it off.
In a recent interview with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Liam says that he is now “indeed” single and reflected on his past relationships.
“I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people,” he said.
“That annoys me. I’ve just not been very good at relationships,” he continued. “And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point. I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else.”
“I feel like that’s where I got to in my last relationship,” the One Direction alum added. “I just wasn’t giving a very good version of me and I didn’t appreciate or like me. I feel better out of it. I didn’t feel good for doing what I did, but it had to happen. It was what’s best for both of us.”
Liam was previously in a relationship with singer Cheryl Cole, with whom he shares son Bear. The two formally announced their split in July of 2018, noting that they “still have so much love for each other as a family.”
He and Maya started sparking romance rumors in August of 2018 – but it wasn’t until September 2019 that they became Instagram official. Engagement speculations swirled in August of last year, when Maya was spotted wearing a huge diamond ring on her left ring finger during one of their date nights. Days later, Liam’s rep confirmed that the two had taken the next step in their relationship.
In September, Liam broke his silence about the engagement. “We’re just really happy,” he said during an appearance on GMA at the time. But it looks like things have changed in the time since.
So far, Maya is yet to speak out about their split.
