Lindsay Lohan is being sued for allegedly breaching a book deal she signed back in 2014.
According to court documents, book publisher HarperCollins has filed a lawsuit against the actress for allegedly failing to turn in the manuscript she was paid to write six years ago.
The documents further state that Lindsay was granted a two-year extension to her original deadline of May 2015 – but the agreed-upon manuscript was never delivered. HarperCollins says that in September 2018, they told her the deal was canceled and demanded that for the advance back. According to TMZ, she never refunded the money.
The publishing company claims they paid her $365,000 dollars as an advance and is suing Lindsay for the same amount, plus legal fees and court costs.
The suit claims that “by failing to return the money to the Plaintiff upon the Defendants’ breach of the agreement, the Defendants have received a windfall and have been unjustly enriched.”
Back in March 2014, reports came out that Lindsay was originally offered a $1 Million deal by HarperCollins to write a memoir – which would also use a diary she kept during her stint in rehab as basis.
Lindsay’s reps are yet to respond to requests for comment.
News of the lawsuit comes after Lindsay announced a new business venture in the United Arab Emirates called #BeYourOwnBoss. The actress has been living in the U.A.E. the past few years.
“So excited to set up my own company in the UAE! My journey continues in this incredible country! Thanks to @virtuzone for making my company setup process so smooth,” Lindsay wrote on Instagram on Thursday (September 10).
Other than announcing the name, not much is known about her new company.
