Lizzo is taking a stand.
Lizzo is not one to back down, and she’s making that abundantly clear in the face of the lawsuit filed against her by her former tour dancers and contestants from “Watch Out For The Big Grrrls,” who accused her of assault, discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment earlier this summer.
In a response filed on September 27, Lizzo unequivocally stated that she wants the entire lawsuit to be “dismissed in its entirety with prejudice.” She is standing firm and denying “each and every allegation” made against her and her Big Grrrl touring company.
A spokesperson for Lizzo’s legal team issued a statement on Thursday (September 28), making their stance crystal clear: “This is the first step of a legal process in which Lizzo and her team will demonstrate that they have always practiced what they’ve preached – whether it comes to promoting body positivity, leading a safe and supportive workplace, or protecting individuals from any kind of harassment. Any and all claims to the contrary are ridiculous, and we look forward to proving so in a court of law.”
Lizzo isn’t mincing words here. She’s ready to take this matter to court if necessary and has requested a jury trial should the suit not be abandoned.
Near Rahmani, the lawyer representing the dancers, wasted no time in responding on the same day, saying, “Lizzo’s answer merely consists of boilerplate objections that have nothing to do with the case. That said, the key takeaway is that Lizzo is agreeing to our clients’ demand for a jury trial. We look forward to presenting our case in court and letting a panel of her peers decide who is telling the truth, Lizzo and her team who continue to shame the victims or the plaintiffs and so many others who have come forward sharing similar stories of abuse and harassment.”
