Lorde is back—and she’s got something major to share.

After four years of relative quiet, the 28-year-old singer has announced that her fourth studio album, titled Virgin, will drop on June 27. The announcement follows the release of her new single “What Was That,” which has already made waves by hitting No. 1 on Spotify in the U.S.—her first chart-topper on the platform since “Royals.”

In a newsletter to fans, Lorde gave all the details. “An album by me. Produced by me and Jim-E Stack. With Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro and Devonte Hynes. Mixed by Spike Stent and Tom Elmhirst. Mastered by Chris Gehringer. 100% written in blood,” she wrote.

The cryptic tone? So very Lorde.

According to her team, Virgin marks a bold evolution in her sound and storytelling, which fans got a taste of in “What Was That.” The track’s dreamlike production and introspective lyrics already hint at a more intimate, layered direction for the album.

Co-produced by Lorde, Jim-E Stack, and Dan Nigro), the album promises collaborations with artists known for pushing sonic boundaries. Fans can expect something deeper, richer, and a little more raw than her previous work.

The album is available for preorder now through her official web store, with signed vinyl editions up for grabs—because of course Lorde knows what the people want.

While Virgin’s themes remain under wraps, it’s clear she’s not shying away from vulnerability this time around. And if the early response to her single is any indication, Lorde’s comeback is already a certified success.
