Katy Keene has found its Katy Keene!

The internet was buzzing on Monday with news that Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale has landed the role of the titular character. And Lucy herself has confirmed it!

Sharing an article and a side-by-side photo of her and the comic book character, Lucy wrote: “Well I’m slightly freaking out! Thank you @archiecomics / @writerras / @thecw / @warnerbrostv / @thatthingofwhen for trusting me to be your KATY KEENE. my heart is bursting ❤.”

The 29-year-old actress played PLL’s Aria Montgomery for seven years. After the series ended, she went on to star in Life Sentence, which ran for only one season. She just wrapped filming a new project – a supernatural comedy horror called Fantasy Island – with Michael Pena and Maggie Q, helmed by director Jeff Wadlow.

Katy Keene is the newest sister series to Riverdale. Last January, The CW gave the green light to the musical spinoff!

Riverdale show creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the exciting news on Twitter.

“The #Riverdale universe expands! Thrilled to be bringing the adventures of Katy Keene and her New York pals to life! Extra-thrilled to be doing this with my pal Michael Grassi,” he wrote alongside a Katy Keene comic book cover.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The spinoff follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including titular fashion-legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.”

So basically, it’s set in the same world as Riverdale and its other sister series, Sabrina, just fast-forward a few years into the future.

EW reports that Katy’s character is described as “a twentysomething New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city.”

Also starring in the show is Ashleigh Murray, who currently plays THE Josie of Riverdale’s Josie and the Pussycats’.  And this time, she’ll be playing a slightly older version of her character for Katy Keene.

Right now, the standing order is just for a pilot – beyond that, the fate of the show is still TBD.
